Redesigning Aon’s video assessment tool to cut down heavy jargon, simplify recruiter workflows, and integrate ethical AI.

Problem

Unused, time consuming, clunky tool loosing client support

Our video interview product was struggling to make sales. Clients consistently chose competitor tools because our platform to review candidate responses was clunky and took too much time.

  • Only 5% of core clients used the video interview tool.
  • Built by engineers and psychologists, the interface was filled with technical jargon that confused recruiters.
  • Confusing rating forms cost assessors an extra 20 minutes per candidate.
  • Assessors spent more time checking video quality and asking for resubmissions than evaluating actual candidates.

Goal

Provide Clear, Quick insights from responses

Deliver a solution that integrates AI into the existing assessment evaluation while maintaining fairness, and dramatically speed up how assessors reach rating decisions leading to an uptake in client requests to use the assessment.

Assessors who are bogged down by dense terminology and need quick, clear insights to evaluate talent efficiently.

Constraints

Balancing a complex legacy backend system and complex existing tool with the introduction of an AI-driven interface.

Because the current tool now supports multiple response formats, not just video, the backend architecture forces us to update the entire product at once. As a result, the MVP must support all existing use cases from day one; we cannot phase them in or roll them back.

Instead of overwhelming users with data, we structured the interface around clarity, actionable AI summaries, and intuitive ratings, and automated pre-ratings generated before assessors begin their review.

Replaced confusing technical scales with contextual, intuitive controls so assessors can review and rate responses in a fraction of the time.

Trade Offs

To avoid overwhelming users, we redesigned the interface for clarity introducing intuitive rating flows, actionable AI summaries, and automated pre-ratings generated before assessors begin their review.

Results and Key takeaways

Marketing the new AI-powered concept yielded an overwhelmingly positive response. During usability testing, assessors were excited by the concept, noting it drastically speeded up their rating process and made drawing conclusions much easier.
